Meet the Teacher, Ms. Birchall

Brittany Birchall is a veteran teacher starting what will be her 7th year at Rio Del Mar who formerly worked as a district math curriculum coach in Pajaro Valley Unified School District located in Santa Cruz County, California. This year marks her 16th year as a teacher in Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Prior to coaching math, she was a middle school math/science teacher for eight years at Cesar E. Chavez Middle School. 

Ms. Birchall has extensive experience serving students in multiple capacities. She worked as the Summer School Principal at Mar Vista Elementary School 2018, E.A. Hall Middle School 2017, and Cesar Chavez in 2016. She has served as the GATE Liaison, Math Department Chair, Data Team Lead, Activities Director, Student Council Advisor, and athletic coach. She has participated in multiple professional development opportunities that include: The Schools Attuned Program, Pearson Digital Technology Training, Pre-Algebra Through Technology Applications, Differentiating Instruction Using Depth and Complexity Icons, The Silicon Valley Math Grant Initiative, and the Asilomar Mathematics Conference in Pacific Grove to name a few. 

In 2012, at her former school site, Birchall founded a strength and conditioning program for middle school students called, Urban Cross Training using her experience and training certificates that include CrossFit methodologies and currently runs a fitness club for students at Rio Del Mar as a part of the after school program. Ms. Birchall coached the girls’ soccer team at Cesar Chavez Middle School for six years. Birchall also worked as the Assistant Varsity Softball Coach at Santa Cruz High School from 2011-2013, and 2019, coached travel fastpitch softball for the Carmel Valley Mavericks U-14s, and coaches at West Fitness in Santa Cruz County. She is a current board member for the Tim Brauch Foundation, which focuses on giving youth opportunities in skateboarding and the arts. She enjoys seeing students involved in school and extra curricular opportunities. 

Ms. Birchall is an enthusiastic, experienced, and well rounded educator with a passion for life long learning, academic excellence, wellness for the mind, body, and spirit, and education for the whole child.
